Do you drive to work?

Ouch! Although I work from home now, I've walked to and from work since 1998. This not only makes me happier, but probably makes the roads of Boston a safer place. As a result, I'm somewhat insulated and unaware of the rising cost of gasoline. Do you drive to work? How much money do you spend (on average) per week?

The chart above displays the average cost of gasoline per gallon in MA. You can go to The Boston Globe to link to the data courtesy of the Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration and AAA - to see what the average price of gasoline costs in your state if you live in the US.

Yes, I have to drive to/from work. My apartment is roughly 22 miles from the office. The bus takes too long, and the MetroLink doesn't stop close enough to the office. As for money spent, usually $29 - $35/week for gas.

Luckily our craptastic public transit agency provides decent enough service so I don't need to drive to the office.

However the office is all of three miles away so it wouldn't cost a fortune to drive there.

However I am a bit concerned as we're about to embark on a holiday trip by car and 800 miles in a car that gets 35MPG means 22 gallons or $66+

Actually that's almost as cheap as the tolls!

Thankfully, no. I'm lucky enough (and pay for the privilege) to be able to walk to work in SF. All hail public transit!

Driving to work is currently my only option, and I usually spend a little under $25 a week on gas. It's certainly much better than when I was working in Copley and had an hour and a half commute each way and had to pay $4 a day to park in addition to my $223 monthly pass. :-)

Like you, I walk where I need to go, but Stan has to drive an hour each way to get into the ed. department. Luckily the cruiser gets 26/29. Still not pretty though.

I drive to work but it's less than three miles one way to get there. While gas is high at least it's still a manageable expense.
