Wholy Grain: new coffee shop & bakery opens in South End

This past Friday another cute coffee shop & bakery opened in the South End. The Wholy Grain sign outside claims it's "a little taste of heaven". I hope it proves to be just that because this place is nestled a block from The South End Buttery and across from South End Formaggio at 275 Shawmut Avenue. Both the Buttery and Formaggio enjoy a strong, loyal following, but that doesn't mean Wholy Grain can't thrive. One thing that might help it in the mornings is that it opens at 7AM (30 minutes before places like the Buttery and Flour).

This tiny little place has limited seating but serves good coffee (I know I just tried my first cup), sandwiches, scones, muffins and tempting treats. You can check out their full menu here. I'll be stopping by again (and I'm sure again). Check out the coffee shop and let me know what you think.

If you can find a seat (there are a couple of tables) you can bring along your laptop and leverage their free WiFi... Password is: WholySmoke (cute right?)

Christian owned maybe?? Holy grain. Little taste of heaven.
Next time I'm on a BOS layover I'll have to make a trip to the South End. I've never been.

Lewis, do tell. I would love to meet you. First cup of joe is on me.

Tracey, I wish you were in the South End too. Only in Boston could someone living in an adjacent neighborhood be viewed as "living far away"....

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to give it a try.

I was overwhelmed by the friendly service, great coffee and baking to just die for (best buns in the south end!). Also check out the wholy bowl, a fresh healthy Mexican inspired concoction of rice, beans, spicy sauce and fresh salsa, avocado and sour cream, a brilliant addition to lunchtime.

Oh brother (or should I say Wholy Cow) that's got to be from someone at Wholy Grain. Regardless, I just wolfed down one of their molasses blueberry muffins and it is definitely worth the trek over there. Check it out.

DELIGHTED to welcome Wholy Grain to the South End and Shawmut Street, but just FYI re the poster, Buttery opens at 6:30 a.m. not 7:30 a.m.

Too bad their sign is in Papyrus.

Yum! I thought the Buttery, the Formaggio and the Wine shop were the holy trinity, but it seems your hood just keeps getting better! Can't wait to come visit :)
