Can you relate?

Its sort of ironic that my "paperless office" is filled with dozens of sticky notes that are filled with hand written tasks that need immediate attention; reminders I can't afford to forget; and countless activities that have imminent deliverables.  I work hard so I often have to remind myself that this is just a job.  Unlike a neurosurgeon or a manager of a nuclear power plant - if I have a bad day nobody dies and life continues.

I've found it is easy to get sucked into this job, working late into the evenings and through most of my weekends.  However, I only have myself to blame when that becomes a lifestyle vs. a once in awhile occurance meant to get me through a tight deadline. Do you know how to disengage?  When you look at this picture do you see a stock image photograph or is it your face you see?

Wait--didn't you recently post about how good you were at taking vacations?

How to disengage? Honey, you just do! I used to be that guy that worked late and on weekends, and then I realized that it was destroying my life without any benefit. So I stirred things up, realized what I really wanted, and now I have to say the workload is bearable, and I only have to work extra now and then to meet special deadlines.

Yes RW, I am a bit schitzo at the moment. I have an earlier posting about work/life balance and in it I address how I definitely make time for vacation. However, I also forget myself from time to time and can hunker down for weeks on end working what most people would deem crazy hours. I can see the end in sight with a number of projects and I'm elated just by the thought of these deadlines coming to pass.
