Boston announces 15 new food truck locations

According to Adam's Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog 15 new food truck locations will debut throughout Boston on Wednesday, July 13th.

New food truck locations will be located in Back Bay, Bay Village, South End, Fenway, Kenmore/BU, Dorchester, Boston Marine Industrial Park/South Boston Waterfront, and the Charlestown Navy Yard.

You can figure out where your favorite food truck is located or look online to see if there is a food truck near you by visiting the city of Boston website here.

Do you have a favorite food truck or does the idea of eating from a kitchen on wheels make you road sick? Boston has a fair amount of good options and there is always a large collection each Sunday at the SoWa Open Market so if you don't have one of these kitchens on wheels near you during the day, come and check it out on Sunday at the Open Market in the south end.

Boston's Rose Kennedy Greenway

Boston is so beautiful in the summer. I was out riding my bike along the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway this past weekend. This park which stretches from North to South through the heart of the city replaces what was formerly an elevated interstate highway. The interlocking Greenway is still being developed but over the past few years, a lot has been done and I love what has been accomplished. The following pictures were from my bike ride.

Fitness update

So who has fallen off the exercise band wagon and who has been good about getting themselves to the gym?

After I tweaked my left shoulder in early May, I've had to scale back my lifting. The result has been the loss of a bit of muscle mass and definition, but once I'm 100% again, my trainer will whip me into shape in no time.

I've tried to use the past 8+ weeks to focus on abs and running. While my core has been getting stronger, running has been frustrating more often than not. My run this afternoon broke a string of bad runs. I felt as if I could've run another mile or two but stopped at 4miles. I completed the run in 35 minutes which is a solid time for me.

Based on some recent experimenting I've found that I have better runs if I eat a couple of hours before; refrain from drinking coffee; and if I throw in a bit of weight lifting or some other exercise to get my heart rate up before I start my run.

Help keep me focused and tell me what you've been doing to stay in shape.

Boston is one of the US youngest cities

The Boston Globe is reporting that the latest US Census shows that Boston has the highest ratio of 20 to 34 year olds among large US cities. With more than 1/3 (35%) of the city's residents falling into this age range. This represents an 11% jump from the figure reported one decade before.

Interestingly, the large number of young men and women living in Boston does not translate into having a great nightlife. As a matter of fact, my theory is that Bostonian conservatism combined with a large university population has contributed to many of the city's laws that restrict public drinking and require bars to close at 2AM.

However, this demographic does provide a lot of energy and vitality to the city which is evident whenever you walk around the streets of Boston. Other cities with high ratios of 20 to 34 year olds include: Austin and Washington D.C., Seattle, and San Francisco.

Boston becomes a bear den

Tonight only, Boston becomes a bear haven as this happy-go-lucky group of gay fur balls fly into town. Saturday morning they will board the ferries to Provincetown (weekly rentals on the Cape run from Saturday to Saturday).

Many come from far away locations making a one night stay in Boston necessary. Actually through late August going out in Boston on Friday nights is a bit surreal. Most of the local gays pack there bags early and leave for either the Cape (meaning Provincetown) or the coast of Maine (meaning Ogunquit)so there always seems to be a disproportionate number of guys from out-of-town on Fridays. I've got the music in me

Yesterday I was working out with my trainer at the Boston Sports Club SouthEnd when movement out of the corner of my eye distracted me from the ridiculous ab routine Stu had concocted to try and tire me. Glancing over my left shoulder, I saw an attractive guy in his mid-20s shaking his money-maker. The little jig made me laugh, but I applauded his energy as he sat back down on the bench to continue with his work out.

Through out the evening his dance routine continued between reps, while waiting in line for water and even walking from one spot to the next. It was always the same albeit fairly involved. The dance moves seemed to invigorate him and entertain everyone in the gym. I turned to my trainer between stifled laughs and said "only in the SouthEnd". I'm pretty sure he was aware of the attention and enjoyed it as much as I appreciated the distraction between sets.

I'm hopeful I'll be seeing more of twinkletoes (my nickname for the handsome young man) and if I'm lucky, I'll even break out my phone to try and tape one of his routines. On the off chance anyone reading this works out at the BSC SouthEnd, have you seen this guy before? Do you know him?

Provincetown sights

Provincetown is blessed with beautiful dunes and gorgeous beaches. It is also amazingly quaint in its own way with beautiful homes, tiny streets and paths that lead to beautiful gardens with ocean views. However, this isn't that kind of post. The sights listed are a sampling of some of the people who caught my attention this past weekend.

Some of these people I had the opportunity to chat with and enjoyed meeting. Others I just admired from a distance. I have included more images of "the sights" from Provincetown in a video I created which is in the following post.

Provincetown: Independence Week

Provincetown is located at the very tip of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. This out of the way place where land greets the North Atlantic has long been a home for the gay community. Although in recent years, more heterosexual couples and families have started visiting, the town remains proudly gay in the summer months especially when the queer community comes to vacation en masse.

Starting this past weekend Provincetown opened its arms wide to welcome 40,000+ men and women. Although the 4th of July holiday is now over, thousands remain thru Saturday celebrating and enjoying the beaches, shopping, restaurants, shows (yes there's quite a few) and nightlife. In all my travels, I've never found its equivalent and so if you've never had the opportunity, I'd encourage you to consider a visit. Following Independence Week, Saturday July, 9th, more will come for Bear Week. This combined with Carnival Week (August 13-20) are the three busiest for Provincetown. Below I've included a quick (and SFW) video of some of the fun and people I met this past weekend in Provincetown. More pictures will follow.

I'm a fan of Twitter. I love how quick and easy it is to use and connect with people. Another perk is what I'll refer to as the "Men of Twitter" since there are so many handsome guys. Adding to their attraction is the fact they only talk in 140 characters.

CuteLiberal Guess who this guy voted for in the last election? This bi-coastal guy mixes political tweets with witty thoughts such as, “Alexander the Great & Richard the Lion-Hearted were both gay. Remember that the next time somebody calls you a #faggot” You’ll love following this guy.

MITguy01 Since when are guys who go to M.I.T. sexy? Chris certainly doesn’t resemble the stereotypical geeky, awkward MIT student. He too keeps his tweets smokin’ hot with sexual innuendo so beware.

South End cheap eats

The South End is not a restaurant district, but it certainly has many options for Foodies and in my opinion some of Boston's most interesting dining establishments. Unfortunately, it may cost you more than $50 to have a meal if you don't know where some of the South End's best cheap eats are located.

I thought I'd make a list of a few cheap eats that do this neighborhood proud. I only considered restaurants that are open for dinner and have table service.

ADDIS RED SEA is an authentic Ethiopian restaurant located in the heart of the neighborhood on Tremont Street. Ethiopian cuisine is surprisingly flavorful and a bit exotic at least by my standards. Main dishes range in price with most falling between $8-$15; sharing dishes will make a stop here even more affordable.

ANCHOVIES is nestled discretely on Columbus Avenue and it serves up good home style Italian-American cooking. Main dishes for dinner all come with bread and a house salad and range from $12-$15.

Columbus Cafe is located on the corner of Columbus Ave and Claremont Park. The cozy restaurant and bar also has a small street side patio for al fresco dining. The menu is filled with comfort food all reasonably priced with main dishes ranging from $11-$19.

ORINOCO is a rustic Venezuelan restaurant on Shawmut Avenue, just a few blocks up from Mass Ave. Their coooking nicely blends flavors I normally associate with Latin American and the Caribean cooking. If you are lucky, you can snag a seat outside at one of the few tables they have. Main dishes range from $8-$19.

PICCO Just across the street from ADDIS RED SEA is the Pizza & Ice Cream Co. (PICCO). The menu is mostly pizza, sandwiches and pasta. This place has a large patio that also provides excellent people watching. Main dishes range from $8-$14. For an even cheaper option; split a large pizza and delicious dessert. (I like the brownie sundae.)
